Scripture Reading: Psalm 8:1–9

Key Theme: Rediscovering our divine identity, value, and authority in God through Christ.

Scripture Reading: Psalm 8:1–9

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet:all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Introduction

Calvary Chapel congregation. Do you remember your youth?

When you graduate high school, you worry about your career. When you enter university, you face endless assignments and exams. After graduation, you struggle with jobs and housing. Back in my youth, I also felt a deep, blank fear. I was looking at an unclear future.

Now, I have passed my youth. I have become an adult. What I've realized as an adult is how fast time flies. You empty the trash bin yesterday. You have to empty it again today. You just paid the utility bills. A month is already gone.

Adult life is exactly like this. You barely finish one task. You think, "Can I catch my breath now?" As if waiting for that moment, the next tasks line up. You finish the dishes and feel proud. But more hidden cups and bowls appear. Your children's future, household chores, and work. Health issues start to appear as you age.

"Where am I going? Am I living well right now?"

The world's standards and countless graphs make us forget. We completely forget the true value and name God gave us when He first made us. The world keeps us extremely busy.

King David's Perspective

Yet, about three thousand years ago, someone asked the exact same question. He was looking up at the countless stars in the dark night sky. It was David. David was a king. Some might think, "His servants prepared all his food, cleaned up, and dressed him. What was so hard for a king?"

But look at David's life. The job of Israel's king was an extreme occupation. Every morning, a mountain of citizens' petitions (Sesizări) piled up. Small complaints like, "Your Majesty, my neighbor's sheep ate my crops." Massive national emergencies burst out every morning. Add to that the tragic conflicts among his children and Absalom's rebellion. What David needed every morning was a strong cup of espresso. The weight of life and tasks on King David's shoulders were just as life-choking. David lived a breathless life every day. He was caught in the political treadmill and complex family matters.

In the middle of his daily routine, David lifted his head. He looked up at the dark night sky. And when he saw God before that vast universe, he left this great confession:

"What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?" — Psalm 8:4

We are driven by daily routines and endless tasks. The world has stolen away our heavenly holy value. We feel small and fragile. And we forget who we are. If so, step away from this horizontal, busy treadmill of life.

I want us to meditate on God together with David today. What kind of perspective does the great God hold? He created the universe. I hope we enter the words of Psalm 8 today. I hope we rediscover our true identity.

Point 1: Look Up at How Big God Is
